The Andalusian Downhill Champs took place at the new Sierra Nevada Bike Park.
The bike park will start the season on 6th of July.
It's a steep track, full of rocks with a lenght of 4420 meters. It has some bends and jumps designed for the bike park
On Saturday practices, the common factor where the flat tyres. Anyway the overall sense was that the track was better than in 2012.
There where some changes in the trail during lunch time, that cost some crashes. Our collaborator Kiko Martinez was one of the affected by those changes, and loose his chance to ride on Sunday.
It was the first race of the year and everybody was trying to know how fit he was. Moises Navarrete from the "Speed Bike Team" and last year winner was the favourite, but some riders like Carlos Haro from the Bull Bikes Team, Isra Jimenez from the Murcia Fusion Team and Marko Fernandez from the 203mm Scott - Spank team tried to steal the victory.
After the first round Moises Navarrete, was the first classified with a time of 4:53.949 followed by Israel Jimenez and Alberto Mingorance.
Antonio Roldán (Lepus-Sport) won at the infantil category followed by Juan F. Lopez from Free Bike Linares and Manuel Martínez from Bull Bike team.
On women category Lorena Banderas from Radikal Bike took the victory.
On cadet category André Sousa del MCF/Xdream was the best rider and Jose Vargas from Lepus-Sport on Junior.
On Sub23 Carlos Haro took the victory.
Bad Luck for our 203mm DH Team rider Marko Fernández. He destroyed one of the weels in the first round and in the finals he had to overtake 3 riders. Anyway he achieved the 3º position in Sub23 category and 4th overall.
Finally Moises Navarrete, did a perfect run on the finals and took again the victory. Congrats man and good luck at the spanish national champs.
Many were the complaints we hear from runners control problems on time, and is something that we have not yet quite clear what happened. On the part of the organization we clarified that it was a simple mismatch in the time of the first round.
Furthermore, and at this point, we want to open a debate on 'good vibes' but very open to criticism from you. First of all we want to be realistic and be aware of a reality that we want to analyze. We have noticed a substantial difference between the times of the head of the race and the time of the Cadet category and especially Junior. No doubt these categories are the future of Andalusian descent and pamper them with care is the work of all who are in higher classes, parents and sponsors. This time unlike in other regions, not as wide, and taking into account that how in Galicia, Basque Country and Catalonia, there are names of young people who do podiums when competing outside our country.
The awareness and support to young people in this Descent is everyone so we can have a good pool of champions us in the future.
